The period 1800-2000 - Bombs over Copenhagen
To commemorate the bicentenary of the British bombardment of Copenhagen in 1807 History Tours arranged this walk. The participants are taken into the period 1800-2000 with special focus on the bombardment. For three nights between the 2nd and 5th of September the bombs rained on Copenhagen. It was a chock and the consequences for Denmark were disastrous.
From Højbro Plads the tour goes to Christiansborg, home of the national democracy, which was introduced in this period. We walk trough Rådhusstræde and pass the city court and former City Hall. We continue to the Cathedral of Our Lady, the British main target. The walk continues along Fiolstræde and Nørregade, the streets most damaged by the bombardment. We walk through Studiestræde and end the tour at the City Hall, home of the local democracy.
