19th century Copenhagen – Battle of Copenhagen 1807
On this walking tour in Copenhagen historian Christian Holm Donatzky talks about the Battle of Copenhagen 1807 – the British bombardment of Copenhagen. For three nights between the 2nd and 5th of September the bombs rained on Copenhagen. It was a chock and the consequences for Denmark were disastrous.
From Højbro Plads the tour goes to Christiansborg, home of the national democracy, which was introduced in this period. We walk trough Rådhusstræde and pass the city court and former City Hall. We continue to the Cathedral of Our Lady, the British main target. The walk continues along Fiolstræde and Nørregade, the streets most damaged by the bombardment. We walk through Studiestræde and end the tour at the City Hall, home of the local democracy.
